beautiful running weather!

Well, Carol is out of the office today, so I had another solo run. I chose Sugarhouse Park because we don't do it much anymore, and I was going to get 7 miles in. At least, that was my goal. Then, I remembered how much I have to do at work, so I opted for only one lap of the park. I did, however, add an additional 1/2 mile at the end of the run, so I got at least what was planned for the day. It was a pretty morning, and I was surprised to only see two other people out running/walking. Sure, it's a bit nippy, but that's perfect for a run! Pretty soon, we're going to be in the 70s every morning, and it will be miserable. I prefer to take advantage of it now - while I can! Stats: 6.15 miles in 1:03:12 for a 10:17mpm pace

13 miles down and at my desk, ready to work by 8am!

OK - This run ROCKED! We had a sleepover at grandma's and grandpa's last night, so I just got up early and ran to work. In order to get my long miles for the week, I had to add a bit in granny's neighborhood and do a lap at Sugarhouse Park. I got drenched between miles 1 and 2, and I had to wait out the rain for a few minutes at a local convenience store. The majority of the run was on 1300 East with a few short hills. I ran almost everything, but I wanted to actually be able to GET to work, so I didn't want to fizzle out. I walked the hills, but I ran everything else. This is the longest run I've done since my marathon last June (10 months ago)!!!! And, my pace rocks! I'm super excited about this run. By mile ten, I was feeling it in my lower back, and by mile 12, I really had to talk myself into pushing my pace. But, it paid off! Yay, ME! Stats: 12.96 miles in 2:17:26 for a 10:37mpm pace

pooped! (aka, tired)

Since Carol wasn't feeling well again today (I blame her new medication), I went solo. I was supposed to get in 8, but I opted for only 5.46 since I only worked a half day yesterday (and I have way more than the other half of the day's worth of work to catch up on). I told myself that I would run until lights or traffic required me to stop. Wow. The universe must have been paying me back for being so lazy yesterday morning because I only had to stop for traffics or lights three times - and even then, they weren't long stops! I did stop once to reply to an e-mail from my boss, and it was the most glorious 60 seconds of my week! A storm is moving in, so it's a bit humid, and I'm really not adjusted to the warmer temperatures yet! And, I ran pretty hard - kept pushing myself. Let's just say I'm now pooped! slow and steady

We ran a slower pace today because Carol was feeling queasy, and I'm a bit stiff from my long run on Saturday and an entire day of yard work yesterday. It was a beautiful morning - every day should be like today. Shockingly, there weren't a lot of people out enjoying the perfect temperatures. (Maybe they were all recovering from the SLC Marathon that happened on Saturday?) Even in Liberty Park, we only saw three other runners. Odd. Anyway, we had a good run with a lot of talking. Those are always the best runs.... Stats: 5.05 miles in 59:38 for an 11:49mpm pace

Long, deer, morning, awesome

For the first time in a LONG time, I got my early morning lazy butt off of the couch before the stinkers awoke, and I ran long. I had a plan in mind, and then I just did something else entirely. I'm glad that I did. While it was still dark, I ran up to Grimm's Gate where I found five deer off to my left and 20 off to my left. I love seeing deer in the early morning darkness. They stand so still - as if they are thinking that I won't see them if they don't move. Then, they just can't stand it anymore, and they take off, bounding and boinging. I love them. After Grimm's Gate and the ensuing rutted dirt road. I turned down Droubay and decided to head up Old Smelter. At the gun club, I turned around and headed home. The sun finally came over the mountain when I was about two miles from home. The temperatures were perfect. The breeze was perfect. The run was awesome. I started getting tired about a mile from home. Stats: 10.2 miles in 1:52:19 for an 11:01mpm pace

blah

A rather blah run this morning in some sprinkling rain. Nothing exciting - just our quick 3-mile loop - after a blah-feeling yoga class. Blah all around, I suppose.

What?

This run started out sketchy with Carol being tired and my granola sitting at the top of my stomach, but after slowly pacing ourselves for the first two miles, apparently we really sped up. I've re-mapped the course a couple of times. Maybe I was off on my watch?

It was sprinkling when I left...

As long as there is no wind, I love running in the rain. Besides the "bad ass" points that it gives me, it's just fun - dodging puddles, wiping drops from my nose and chin, running faster to get under the next big tree. So, when it was just sprinkling when I stepped out this morning, I didn't let it deter me. (If anything was going to deter me, it would have been that nasty weight class this morning! That woman knows how to make me sweat, and I'm talking all over the mat, the step, the floor!)

it's hot!

This run started off rocky because Carol wasn't feeling well. So, we did a run/walk combination for about a mile before she finally convinced me to go ahead while she battled it out at a shorter distance. Since this was an afternoon run, I really had to hoof it in order to get back in time for my 3:30 meeting, so I went at a good clip. It's been a long time since I ran in 65* weather, and when I returned, I was definitely showing the heat on my red face! I forgot my watch, but based on the clock in the building and accounting for the walking time to our starting driveway and from my ending driveway, I estimated 59 minutes overall. Not bad.

Liberty and raisin bran

Unfortunately a solo run, but it was good, nonetheless. I ran after yoga, and the first two miles were just not fun. the raisin bran cereal that I had two hours earlier felt as if it hadn't moved an inch, and it was sitting at the top of my stomach. This caused some unpleasant stomach cramping, but whaddya' gonna' do? So, I ran through it. I managed, again, to time everything just right so that I didn't hit any lights or traffic or other obstacles that would cause me to slow or stop, so I was able to run the entire time. It was just a loop in Liberty, but it was a nice cool morning after last night's rain. The highlight: our crossing guard. She is so sweet, and she watches for us at 1700 South 300 East. This morning, she seemed genuinely pleased to see me and disappointed that Carol wasn't there. She had just been talking to a student that she had missed us for several mornings when along I came. She's just so nice....

loving spring

We took a lot of walk breaks today, but we must have been power walking! The downtown route was very nice this morning - lots of flowers and flowering trees - just a nice run. Carol insisted that she wasn't going to keep up with me, but by the last mile, I was lagging behind her! I think that it was the consistently great conversation that helped us maintain a good pace.

once every five days....

After a tough weight class, I did the regular 3.1 mile route. I managed to miss every red light, and I only had to slow for traffic once. I felt like my pace was really consistent. I wanted to finish sub-10, and.... success! (barely)
In other news, I am completely screwed for my yearly goal of 1200 miles right now. I don't know what has come over me, but I'm just not "there." After talking to a few people, it's not just me. Everything just feels "off." I need to get it all back, for sure.

what is my problem?

Just a quick little run after yoga. I purposely didn't look at my watch during the run, so I realized a bit too late that I could possibly run a sub-10. Oh well, my pace isn't too bad. The thing I'm NOT happy with is that I gained four of my five pounds back. I don't know what it is with me!
